Representative Criminal Cases 

Ms. McAdoo Gordon recently represented a client being investigated by the United States Attorney's Office in Maryland for allegations of theft. She successfully convinced the prosecutor that the client should be a witness, instead of being charged. The United States Attorney's Office decided not to prosecute the client.

Ms. McAdoo Gordon recently represented a client charged with assisting an illegal gambling operation in Fairfax County, Virginia. She successfully persuaded the prosecutor to dismiss the case.

Ms. McAdoo Gordon represented a government employee accused of theft of public money. The case was brought in federal court in Maryland. Ms. McAdoo Gordon negotiated with the government to obtain a misdemeanor charge instead of a felony charge and secured a sentence of probation for the client.

Ms. McAdoo Gordon represented an individual who had sentencing hearings in Fairfax County, Virginia and Loudoun County, Virginia after he plead guilty with another lawyer. The charges were multiple felony larceny and receiving stolen property charges. After presenting evidence showing that the client had medical conditions that impaired his abilities, Ms. McAdoo Gordon persuaded the judge's in both counties to give the client probation only.

Ms. McAdoo Gordon recently represented an employee of a local fish market who was charged in federal court for purchasing illegal rockfish, a violation of the federal Lacey Act. Ms. McAdoo Gordon was able to secure a sentence of probation for the client, by presenting evidence that the client had little knowledge of the Lacey Act, and his good character and standing in the community.

Ms. McAdoo Gordon represented a former government employee who pled guilty in federal court to theft of money from the United States and money laundering. At sentencing, Ms. McAdoo Gordon demonstrated to the court that the client had no intent to harm the government. Ms. McAdoo Gordon used various character reference letters, performance evaluations, and other materials to show that the individual had supported the United States government in an outstanding fashion for many years. As a result, the judge gave a sentence of probation for this client even though the government asked for many years of incarceration.
